Volunteer: Basic Business Skills and Marketing
To help turn around the struggling economy of Southern Sudan, CNFA as a member of the Volunteers for Economic Growth Alliance (VEGA) is implementing the United States Agency for International Development/Sudan (USAID/Sudan)-funded Agricultural Market and Enterprise Development (AMED) project. A team of international organizations is collaborating through VEGA and AMED to accomplish two primary objectives:
1) Strengthening market and enterprise development in selected urban areas as a means of increasing private sector employment; and
2) Building the capacity of local community, country and state level government and civil society organizations to provide effective support to livelihood development and employment generation initiatives with a focus on the reintegration of internally displaced peoples.
CNFA is searching for a short term volunteer. CNFA will provide the following to facilitate the assignment: all transportation (volunteer's home <-> Nairobi, Nairobi <-> Juba, local transportation in Southern Sudan), all accomodation will be arranged in advance and paid for, an M,I&E allowance, training materials & supplies.
Specific assignment summary details:
Host: Terkeka Women Self-Help Association (TWSHA)
Location: Terkeka, Central Equatoria State
Title: Basic Skills and Marketing
Duration: Two weeks (including travel), assignment commences in the last week of October 2007.
Executive Summary:
TWSHAI is a local community based organization formed in 1995 and registered with the Ministry of Health under the Directorate of social welfare in Central Equatoria State. The main goal of the group is to achieve sustainable livelihood through social and economic empowerment of the women with focus on food security, income generating activities, adult literacy, capacity building and basic rights. After formation, the group received support of US$2,500 from OXFAM GB, in terms of annual funding. In addition, TWSHA members pull together resources to create a cooperative society.
in spite of relentless efforts by members to implement planned programs, high rate of illiteracy and lack of management skills have hindered the progress of the group. However, in an attempt to remedy the situation, VEGA/AMED is working out ways to provide support through training as part of its technical assistance program.
Expertise Required:
One short term Volunteer (Regional preferred)
Degree in business administration or equivalent.
10 years experience in business development and cooperative management.
