Volunteer: Management and Leadership


To help turn around the struggling economy of Southern Sudan, CNFA as a member of the Volunteers for Economic Growth Alliance (VEGA) is implementing the United States Agency for International Development/Sudan (USAID/Sudan)-funded Agricultural Market and Enterprise Development (AMED) project. A team of international organizations is collaborating through VEGA and AMED to accomplish two primary objectives:

1) Strengthening market and enterprise development in selected urban areas as a means of increasing private sector employment; and

2) Building the capacity of local community, country and state level government and civil society organizations to provide effective support to livelihood development and employment generation initiatives with a focus on the reintegration of internally displaced peoples.

CNFA is searching for a short term volunteer. CNFA will provide the following to facilitate the assignment: all transportation (volunteer's home <-> Nairobi, Nairobi <-> Juba, local transportation in Southern Sudan), all accomodation will be arranged in advance and paid for, an M,I&E allowance, training materials & supplies.

Specific assignment summary details:
Host: Directorate of Cooperatives of Central Equatoria State
Location: Juba, Central Equatoria State
Title: Management and Leadership
Duration: Three weeks commencing as soon as possible

Executive Summary:
The Directorate of Cooperatives is one of the many directorates under the Ministry of Finance, Economy and Manpower, Central Equatoria State. The directorate is charged with numerous duties and responsibilities. During the training needs assessment, the participants acknowledged the potential and constraints of the directorate and the need to enhance skills in the area of management and leadership. Strong leadership is needed to turn plans into timely and meaningful action

The VEGA/AMED program is designed to benefit both the private and public sectors through its technical assistance program. As such, the VEGA/AMED program is seeking a highly qualified volunteer with extensive experience in management. The volunteer will embark on imparting skills to the participants on managerial and leadership functions. This assignment is for three weeks including travel and is carried out in Juba.

Expertise Required:
Ø One short term regional/international volunteer is needed

Ø Holder of masters degree in management or related field

Ø Minimum of 5 years practical experience in management with reference to cooperatives structure development in the public sector

Ø Able to impart management and leadership skills to the participants in a short time

Ø He/she should have the capability to design training materials/manuals and deliver training using adult learning methodologies

Ø Experience in post conflict situations is an added advantage.
