Volunteer: Organizational Development


To help turn around the struggling economy of Southern Sudan, CNFA as a member of the Volunteers for Economic Growth Alliance (VEGA) is implementing the United States Agency for International Development/Sudan (USAID/Sudan)-funded Agricultural Market and Enterprise Development (AMED) project. A team of international organizations is collaborating through VEGA and AMED to accomplish two primary objectives:

1) Strengthening market and enterprise development in selected urban areas as a means of increasing private sector employment; and

2) Building the capacity of local community, country and state level government and civil society organizations to provide effective support to livelihood development and employment generation initiatives with a focus on the reintegration of internally displaced peoples.

CNFA is searching for a short term volunteer. CNFA will provide the following to facilitate the assignment: all transportation (volunteer's home <-> Nairobi, Nairobi <-> Juba, local transportation in Southern Sudan), all accomodation will be arranged in advance and paid for, an M,I&E allowance, training materials & supplies.

Specific assignment summary details:
Host: Green Belt Women Association (GBWA)
Location: Morobo County, Central Equatoria State
Title: Organizational Development
Duration: Three weeks with travel time included and commencing 1st week of November 2007.

Executive Summary:
GBWA’s overriding objective is to empower the women for their own development through participation in the social and economic sectors. With the help of ACORD, GTZ and Oxfam Novib the members of the group managed to launch a number of activities that include food crop cultivation, sewing, saving and credit services, kinder garden, etc. According to the Program Coordinator, at present, the group is lacking adequate organizational skills to mobilize resources for sound operations. Therefore, any attempt to enhance their capabilities offers a way forward. As a result, the group can benefit from VEGA/AMED technical assistance program in order to improve its performance.

Based on the groups needs, the VEGA/AMED is seeking a highly qualified volunteer with extensive experience in organizational development to provide training. The volunteer will focus on group dynamics, members’ roles, leadership, resource mobilization and management. This assignment is for three weeks including travel. The challenges include GBWA’s ability to organize farmers, mobolize resources and increase production aimed at increasing household income and satisfying local market.

Expertise Required:
 One short term regional volunteer is needed,
 Holder of masters degree in organizational management or related field
 Minimum of 5 years practical experience in organizational development with reference to farmers coops and associations
 Able to develop organizational systems and procedures
 He/she should have the capabilities to design training materials/manuals and deliver training using adult learning methodologies
 Experience in post conflict situation is an added advantage.
